Next week, in recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), April 19 – 25, Marsy’s Law for Florida is lighting Sunshine State landmarks purple to raise awareness for crime victims’ rights and to ensure Floridians are aware of the crime victims’ rights and protections available to them under Marsy’s Law for Florida.
Throughout the week, eight Florida landmarks will be lit purple – the color associated with crime victims’ rights – in recognition of NCVRW. Lighting up the nights in purple will be:
“This year, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is particularly meaningful for us as Senate Bill 350/House Bill 1113 was passed by the Florida Legislature last month, restoring the right to privacy initially afforded to Florida crime victims after a statewide vote in 2018,” said Jennifer Fennell, Marsy’s Law for Florida spokesperson. “This right had been stripped away from crime victims nearly three years ago following a Florida Supreme Court ruling.”
Every April, NCVRW is observed nationally to support crime victims while revisiting victims’ rights history, advocating for advancements, and celebrating those in our justice system who work in support of these efforts.
