Marsy’s Law for Florida Lights Florida Landmarks Purple for National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

TALLAHASSEE – Next week, in recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW), April 21 – 27, Marsy’s Law for Florida is lighting Florida landmarks purple to raise awareness of the importance of crime victims’ rights and to ensure Floridians are aware of the crime victims’ rights and protections available to them under Marsy’s Law for Florida.

Throughout the week, six Florida landmarks will be lit purple – the color associated with crime victims’ rights. Lighting up the nights in purple lights will be:

• Raymond James Stadium in Tampa (April 21)
• Daytona Beach Oceanfront Bandshell in Daytona Beach (April 21 – 23)
• Daytona International Speedway sign in Daytona Beach (all week long)
• West Pasco Government Center in New Port Richey (all week long)
• Dade City Historic Courthouse in Dade City (all week long)
• Capital Cascades Trail Crossing and Pedestrian Bridge in Tallahassee (all week long)

“This year’s theme for National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is ‘How would you help? Options, services, and hope for crime survivors.’ As advocates for crime victims’ rights, Marsy’s Law for Florida is helping by ensuring victims know they have a clear set of enforceable rights in our state constitution by lighting buildings and landmarks purple during this week of recognition,” said Jennifer Fennell, Marsy’s Law for Florida spokesperson. “For five years now, Florida crime victims have been able to avail themselves of the rights and protections provided by Marsy’s Law for Florida.”

Every April, NCVRW is observed in support of crime victims, while revisiting victims’ rights history, advocating for advancements, and celebrating those in our justice system who work in support of these efforts. Marsy’s Law for Florida joins with organizations across the country in observing NCVRW by promoting victims’ rights and honoring crime victims and those who advocate on their behalf.
